Been in a gloomy mood as just over a week ago I got news that three of Toronto's rep houses, including the Revue where the Kung Fu Fridays series is held, will close their doors June 30th. Just what this city needs, less screens to show films. As a mini/indie distributor, I can rant about this, but I choose not to at this point. So with a busy summer ahead of me with my job at the Toronto International Film Festival, I regret to announce the death of the series. I don't want to do it and had films lined up until the end of 2007 or the middle of 2008. But at this point I don't have the time and energy to find a new venue and set up shop in less then a month. Who knows, maybe it will relaunch as something else in the fall, but right now I just can't handle it. Been doing in for roughly 10 years, first as a once every few months show then moved into the Royal in 2000 with a once a month show, eventually bumping it to twice a month due to the popularity. That is a long fight for the fu. The LAST Kung Fu Fridays show will be CRIPPLED AVENGERS aka MORTAL COMBAT on Friday June 23rd. The end of an era and the marking of a new chapter in my life...

Perfect film to finish off a great run.
Don't forget -- there are no tears allowed in the martial world.

ahh sad indeed, CRIPPLED AVENGERS does some how seem fitting for the last KFF it was and is a good run and Toronto is at a double loss hand in hand with the theathers closing.
but like many themes of all good KFF movies will give you a chance to retreat to a place of solice and maybe learn some new ancient KF and come back and AVENGE what has been taken away , but failing that thanks again for putting on a much loved event and I look fwd to the MM selection at TIFF
and ofcourse see you at CRIPPLED AVENGERS

That is terrible news - I was always deeply impressed that this was going on somewhere in the world...
Hope the final screening is a sensation and KFF can return like a Dirty Ho at some point in the future.
(Also hope this doesn't mean the end of the Kung Fu Fridays blog).
